Purpose of this privacy policy

This privacy policy explains how we (My Iwe) process, share and transfer your data when you use My Iwe. We have also provided a child-friendly privacy policy.

You must read this privacy policy or the child-friendly version so that you are fully aware of how and why we are using your data.

By using My Iwe, you confirm that you have read and understood this or the child-friendly privacy policy.

Our right to process Users’ data

Where Users’ data is processed in My Iwe is (under the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (“GDPR”)) the data controller responsible for the processing of that data.

We only process Users’ data when we have a legal basis for doing so, in any of the following circumstances:

  • Where we need to perform the contract, we are about to enter into or have entered into with a Partner
  • Where it is necessary for our legitimate interests (or those of a third party) and your interests and fundamental rights do not override those interests
  • Where we need to comply with a legal obligation

Note that we may process a user’s data on more than one lawful basis, depending on the specific purpose for which we are using their data.

Legitimate interests

When we refer to our “legitimate interests”, we mean the interest of our company (My Iwe) in conducting and managing our business to enable us to give Users the best service/product and the best and most secure experience.

We make sure we consider and balance any potential impact (both positive and negative) on Users’ and Users’ rights before we process their data for our legitimate interests. We do not process a user’s data for activities where our interests are overridden by the impact on the user (unless we have their consent or are otherwise required or permitted to by law).

Special category data

My Iwe does not seek to process any special categories of personal data (as defined in GDPR) about Users; for example, information about race or ethnicity, religious or philosophical beliefs, sex life, sexual orientation, political opinions, trade union membership, health, genetic or biometric data, and criminal convictions or offences.

Change of purpose

We will only process a user’s data for the purposes for which we originally intended unless we reasonably consider that we need to process it for another reason and that reason is compatible with the original purpose.

Aggregated data

We collect, use and share aggregated users’ data such as statistical or demographic data to improve My Iwe. Aggregated data will not directly or indirectly reveal the identity of a User.

For example, we may aggregate usage data to calculate the percentage of Users accessing My Iwe after they accessed the website.

Cookies

My Iwe website utilises cookies to enable us to deliver relevant content to each user. You can set your browser to refuse all or some browser cookies or alert you when websites set or access cookies.

If you disable or refuse cookies, some parts of the My Iwe application may become inaccessible or not function properly.

What do we do with My Iwe’ data?

My Iwe safeguards children’s privacy in the following way:

  • My Iwe content (including comments) is moderated and monitored to offer a safe and appropriate environment for all visitors.

How long do we retain Users’ data?

We only retain Users’ data for as long as is reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including to satisfy any legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, or reporting requirements. We may retain a user’s data for a longer period in the event of a complaint or if we reasonably believe there is a prospect of litigation concerning our relationship with the User.

To determine the appropriate retention period for personal data, we consider:

  • the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the personal data
  • the potential risk of harm from unauthorised use or disclosure of Users’ data
  • the purposes for which we process Users’ data and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means
  • any applicable legal, regulatory, tax, or accounting requirements

Your legal rights

Under certain circumstances, you have rights under data protection laws about your data.:

Review/access/delete/restrict the collection of your child’s data. A Parent has certain rights over how we handle the personal data of a User who is their child. This includes the right for a parent to review, access, or delete the personal data that has been collected by us from that user and to refuse at any time to permit the collection from that User of such personal data.

Request access to your data (commonly known as a “data subject access request”). This enables you to receive a copy of the personal data we hold about you and check that we are lawfully processing it.

Request correction of the personal data that we hold about you. This enables you to have any incomplete or inaccurate data we hold about you corrected. However, we may need to verify the accuracy of the new data you provide to us.

Request erasure of your data. This enables you to ask us to delete or remove personal data where there is no good reason for us to continue to process it. You also have the right to ask us to delete or remove your data where you have successfully exercised your right to object to processing (see below), where we may have processed your information unlawfully or where we are required to erase your data to comply with local law. Note, however, that we may not always be able to comply with your request of erasure for specific legal reasons, of which you will be notified, if applicable, at the time of your request.

Object to processing of your data where we are relying on a legitimate interest, and there is something about your particular situation which makes you want to object to processing on this ground as you feel it impacts your fundamental rights and freedoms. You also have the right to object to where we are processing your data for direct marketing purposes. In some cases, we may demonstrate that we have compelling legitimate grounds to process your information that override your rights and freedoms.

Request restriction of processing of your data. This enables you to ask us to suspend the processing of your data in the following scenarios:

  • If you want us to establish the data’s accuracy.
  • Where our use of the data is unlawful, but you do not want us to erase it.
  • Where you need us to hold the data even if we no longer require it as you need it to establish, exercise, or defend legal claims.
  • You have objected to our use of your data, but we need to verify whether we have overriding legitimate grounds to use it.

Withdraw consent at any time where we are relying on consent as the legal basis upon which to process your data. However, this will not affect the lawfulness of any processing carried out before you withdraw your consent. If you withdraw your consent, we may not be able to provide certain products or services to you. We will advise you if this is the case when you withdraw your consent.

What we may need from you

We may need to request specific information from you to help us confirm your identity and ensure your right to access your data (or exercise any of your other rights). This is a security measure to ensure that personal data is not disclosed to anyone who has no right to receive it. We may also contact you for further information about your request to speed up our response.

Changes to this privacy policy

My Iwe has the discretion to update or modify this privacy policy at any time. When we do, we will update the “effective” date on the policy. The most current version of this privacy policy is available on the My Iwe website under the Privacy Policy page.

Private Policy for Children

What is this?

This is where you find out who owns My Iwe, what information we collect about you and our visitors, why it’s collected, and how we keep it safe.

You can read more below (or get your parent or guardian to help you read it!), but here are the 3 QUICK THINGS you should know:

  1. We do everything we can to keep your information safe. You can help by not sharing any personal information on the My Iwe website
  2. We collect info to help us give you the best experience on My Iwe – that means it looks great, contains everything you love, and it’s easier for us to help you with any bugs.
  3. You and your parent or guardian have the right to look at, change, correct, or delete information about you on My Iwe. Just ask your parent or guardian to contact us.

What is My Iwe anyway?

My Iwe is a great platform where children can access a large amount of cool content ranging from e-books to audiobooks and pictures to poems. Not only can children access great pieces of work, but they can also upload and showcase their content too.

Can I share anything I want on My Iwe?

My Iwe depends on content creators to share their work. Who do we consider a Content Creator? Everyone, including children. Before you start sharing your work, we have a few rules:

  • Please don’t share anything that tells people who you are (or where you are!) We call this ‘Personal Information’ – it could be your name, address, phone number (of course) but also things like:
  • real names or pictures of you or other people
  • anything that could be a clue about who you are (think like a detective) – for example, pictures of where you live, telephone numbers, email addresses, pictures of your school uniform, details of where you walk your dog (or lizard or penguin) …. And so on…

If you post something that we think is ‘Personal Information, we have to remove it or reject your post to keep you completely safe.

Be super extra nice. My Iwe is all about positive vibes, so please keep all interactions friendly and clean. In addition, My Iwe is big on equality, diversity, and inclusion, meaning respecting all people from every background is a must, aka no bullying.

Who can see my stuff?

Everyone. Your posts, creations, and comments on My Iwe can be seen by anyone who can access the My Iwe website.

Visitors will be able to identify your content via the search toolbar or your profile page. Please remember you cannot use your real name or picture if you are a child.

What information do you collect from me, and why?

My Iwe objective is to provide a fun, engaging, and educational platform for children of all ages.

To do this, we collect some information from you when you’re on My Iwe. Like whether you use a mobile or computer to access My Iwe, some technical information about your device and network (e.g., IP address), how often you visit My Iwe, how long you hang out on My Iwe, and how many visitors we get. The information we collect isn’t to identify the real you.

Who else gets my information other than My Iwe?

Sharing is caring. We need to share information from our visitors – To make My Iwe a better website, we may need to share your information with other companies. The companies will be well behaved and fall in line with our high standards to keep your data safe at all times

My Iwe is worldwide. Our visitors come from different countries, so we may need to send some of your information between all these countries. If we send your Personal Information to another country, we’ll do what we can to protect it and comply with the correct laws. Your parent or guardian can contact us using the details below to find out more.

How do you protect my information?

My Iwe does a few things to keep your Personal Information. But if something does happen to your Personal Information, we’ll let you know by posting a message on the My Iwe website.

How long do you keep my information for?

We only keep your Personal Information for as long as we need it to bring you the best My Iwe ever and protect everyone. If you ever leave us (but hopefully you won’t), we’ll keep your Personal Information for as long as we think that we might need it to help you re-joining the My Iwe community.

Why do you have adverts?

Collaborating with great brands to show off their products and services means keeping My Iwe free for children to access the great pieces of work on the website.

What control do I have over the Personal Information you have on me?

You and your parent/guardian can look at, change, or correct info about your My Iwe account. You can also delete your account.
